Sixer’s Sevens: Cats pick up a point at Charlton’s Valley

Pete Sixsmith had a ticket for today’s game and a seat booked on the coach down from the North East, and should have been one of 3,136 Sunderland fans in the Jimmy Seed stand, but last night there were things which necessitated a night away from home and precluded his attendance. Back at Sixsmith Towers this afternoon, he has doubtless been glued to Barnes and Benno and hopefully didn’t get over excited and pop his stitches when Luke O’Nien put the Lads ahead in the second minute, nor when Gooch and Wyke went close before half time.

The biggest threat though would have come early in the second half as the Addicks equalised within minutes of the restart. We had other chances, but with Charlton threatening to do to us what we had done to them back in August, then Watmore looking to emulate Lynden Gooch with a last gasp winner, in the end we have to be satisfied with an away point to keep us in the automatic promotion picture.

So does Pete’s absence leave a gap in our coverage?

Never fear, you will not miss out on an instant reaction from South London, as in a role reversal it is M Salut himself, pied chaud (or toute vitesse) from France who is standing in for Sixer, to bring us an immediate post match seven word summation direct from The Valley.
