It is one of those scorelines to be grateful for.Lille were supposed to stand aside and let moneybags Paris Saint-Germain sweep to another Ligue 1 title. Instead, it ended 5-1 to the home side and theoretically, if only theoretically, they could still catch Mbappé and his pals in the remaining games.
What is more, I saw it coming. Maybe Jack Ross needs my guidance in future before a Sunderland defence again defies logic, takes the afternoon off and allows opponents to hit five.
I didn’t get it 100 per cent right in this top-of-the-table French clash (I almost wrote battle between first and second but the 17-point gap, even after this heartening result, makes that phrase seem meaningless).
But 25-26 hours ago, I got up, checked my phone and saw that PSG had crashed to a 5-1 defeat to put their latest title celebrations on hold. But when I searched further, I saw their game was not until last night.
The clairvoyancy skills I had no idea of possessing let me down on one detail. For Lille (LOSC, an abbreviation of a former club name, Lille Olympique Sporting Club), I had read OL (Lyon, or L’Olympique lyonnais). And it was for Lyon’s 5-1 victory that I was looking, perhaps having mistaken LOSC for OL, half a day before a ball was kicked.
Naturally I don’t believe in any of this seeing-into-the-future nonsense. Except this once because it happened. I have to accept that the five, as in number of goals scored against the fancied side, was a figure lodged in my mind from tea-time on Saturday. Yet it still feels uncanny …
Please don’t tell me what odds Paddy Power might have given me. But do tell Jack Ross to keep in touch before our remaining games in case I foresee another defensive catastrophe looming.
* for the record, Lille’s goals came from Thomas Meunier (7 minutes, og), Nicolas Pépé (51), Jonathan Bamba (65), Gabriel dos Santos Magalhães (71) and José Fonte (84). Juan Bernat had made it 1-1 after 11 minutes and it was 1-1 at half time.

Lillehammer. Clever!
Nor Way did I realise the play on words
It’s all downhill from here.
Formidable. A French word with the same spelling as English but with a different meaning.
A bit like fromage. It means cheese in French but in English it’s what stops your bits working
