Martin’s Musings on Norwich: ‘worthy, pleasing winners’

With thanks to Jake for adapting Kartun Malaysia's caricature*

Martin O’Neill won’t preside over many easier wins than this. It was as if we were able to raise our game at will, scoring when we wanted and under little or no threat. And now we’re eighth top. The manager’s post-match e-mail reflects the convincing nature of another important victory …

Dear Colin,

We were worthy winners and won the game convincingly.

It was a great goal from Fraizer Campbell to break the deadlock and I was delighted to see him score again – in fact, all three goals we scored were fantastic.

At times we played some really lovely football. It was great to win the game and I’m delighted with the performance.

There was a bit of everything in that performance tonight.

I thought that we would have our work cut out defensively, because Norwich have two very strong players up front.

They have caused a lot of problems all season and if we couldn’t win the first ball, we knew we would have to win the second.

Once or twice we didn’t read situations properly, but other than that it was a very disciplined performance.

There were a lot of players getting into the penalty area and when we broke we seemed to do it with lots of pace. It was a pleasing performance all round.

All the best,

Martin O’Neill

  1. I predicted a 1-1 draw, or a 2-1 win for us. So I am happy to be wrong, and see once again the mastery of MON. With our two best midfielders out and our 1st choice forward out, we still beat a Norwich side who have done very well this season. Its only Man City who have beat them more convincingly. I’m impressed.
I do hope Campbell keeps performing like that. I’m so happy for the lad. He scored a very nice goal and set the other one up. He might well be our 1st choicer even if Bendtner comes back.
Who needs the January Transfer Window? Fraz is like a new signing for us anyway.

  2. First trophy of the season banked. Friendship Cup won with an aggregate of 4-2. Hope it’s the first of many.

  3. Watched the second half of Norwich away on TV after a long trip to Cyprus. Felt ashamed of possibly our worst performance of the season. What a difference 4 months, a new manager and some self belief makes. From worst to possibly best. Bring on the Smogs.

  4. Perfect night,it will not get any better than that. What an incredible turnaround in one season, it is like watching an entirely new team and Frazier’ come back is now the cherry on the icing on the cake.Martin O Niell is a genius.

Who needs Bent/Gyan we ve got a very capable loyal centre forward.Love him going to away games in disguise, cant imagine Bent doing that.

    • He was Bent’s best mate when they were both here so lets hope that there’s no little devil on his shoulder spouting out evil advice.
