Sixer’s Sevens: Sunderland ailing at Burton Albion

Pete Sixsmith was looking forward to the weekend, not just because of the prospect of a decent game but also because of the prospect of a visit to one or two well-liked pubs.

I’m not sure if those pubs were all pre-match or if he was expecting to take one in afterwards. And I’m not sure if he’d want to do that now because, from the seven word text he sent immediately on the whistle, it wasn’t just the result that wrecked his weekend, it was the whole game:

Sept 15 Burton Albion  2 (2) Sunderland 1 (o) Weaknesses horribly exposed in a deserved defeat

Sept 8 Sunderland 1 (1) Fleetwood Town 1 (1) Huffed and puffed against very difficult opponents

Sept 4 Sunderland 0 (0) [4]  Stoke City U21s 0 (0) [2]  *Decent workout for young guns and recoverees

Sept 8 Sunderland A (a) Fleetwood Town B (b)

Sept 1 Sunderland 1 (0) Oxford United 1 (1 ) Poor first half, dug in well second

Aug 19 Sunderland 3 (3) Scunthorpe United 0 (0) Iron pummeled as three lusty blows delivered

Aug 16 Carabao Cup: Sunderland (0) 0 Sheffield Wednesday (1) 2 Result disappointing but plenty to enthuse about

Aug 11 Luton Town (0) 1 Sunderland (1) 1 Played well in patches against solid opposition

Aug 4 Sunderland (0) 2 Charlton Athletic (1) 1 A great day for club and academy

July 21 St Mirren (0) 0 Sunderland (2) 6 * Cracking results like this will suit fine

July 17 Grimsby Town (0) Sunderland (1) 1 *Gooch’s header from Maguire’s cross settles matters

July 14 Hartlepool United (1) 1 Sunderland (0) 1 Yet to see anything to inspire confidence

July 10 Darlington (1) 1 Sunderland (0) 0 Embarrassing

  1. Hi there Brian the Mag. I think you have been rumbled even down to the deliberate spelling errors and sloppy grammar. Stick to boycoutting the club, shouting at shops and scrawling on sheets.

    • Is that it…Brian the mag.
      Do grow up.
I started supportimg safc long begore you developed your sparkling repartee.
Fact is I dont l8ke what I see and I have seen it so many times before.
If you choose to swallow the latest crud then more fool you.
I wont cheapen salut by hurling child8sh 8nsults at fellow contributors.
      Jog on

  2. We need a proper manager..soon .
We are sleepwalking to mid table obscurity with this bloke.
I am sure He is very nice and in some circles very cerebral in a football sort of way.
Wyke and sinclair are sicknotes and why in the hell we bolstered our very thin ranks with these 2 is baffling.
Mcgeoch is out of his depth and very very injury prone.
Loovens was always slow, is now slower and also injury prone.
    Ozturk..ye gods.
James..another lauded player who is also a sicknote.
Take away baldwin and mcgloughlin and one shakes ones head at ross’s recruitment.
Di fantiesque?? Ie lots of cheap and nasty shoite on the books.b
