Sixer’s Sevens: Manchester City 2 Sunderland 2. So, so unlucky

Pete Sixsmith: seven words, no more, no less
Pete Sixsmith: seven words, no more, no less

It is not yet clear what happened to Pete Sixsmith‘s ticket for the Etihad. He has sent his customary seven-word verdict on a match Sunderland fully deserved to win but had to settle for drawing. But was it a sneaky ‘I wasn’t there but kept tabs’ verdict’ or the real thing? Time will tell. For now, let us salute a magnificent performance which, had the chances been taken (O’Shea twice, Borini, Johnson), would have produced an embarrassing result for City. Connor Wickham’s second, a lovely finish from Giaccherini’s pass that Joe Hart could not hope to stop, would have won it for any team but us. We are condemned to the worst possible fortune on such occasions. But bravo Lads: if you’ve gotta go, go like this …

Jake: 'can we please chalk up a win? Some time? Ever?'
Jake: ‘can we please chalk up a win? Some time? Ever?’

It’s time to forget about Saturday, the sure approach of relegation and idiotic, contrived controversies about Graeme Anderson’s Jozy Altidore tweet*.

Not yet – quite – time for all Salut! Sunderland contributors to rattle off their pieces for what we shall call the Wembley and Bust series. What’s it going to be about, someone asked. I’ll leave you to guess.

Jake demands answers

Mark Barber*, secretary of the Manchester City Disabled Supporters’ Association and our ‘Who are You?’ interviewee ahead of Man City vs SAFC, still reckons we’ll score first through Adam Johnson. If you want to know how often he thinks they’ll reply, you’ll need to read on. Check out the Q+A at https://safc.blog/2014/02/manchester-city-v-sunderland-who-are-you-come-back-niall-and-reidy/ and you’ll see it’s come down by two without being good news. Nor is his assessment of whether we can bounce straight back from relegation. Here is a mixture of Mark’s latest thoughts and those he expressed before the postponed game ….

Manchester City beat Sunderland again, but it’s only Guess the Score

2812-126

Check out the Campo Retro website at www.camporetro.com

We said the prize could go to a supporter of either league cup final side and Simon Curtis, our Man City guest in the “Who are You?” hot seat, was the winner.

Simon, a past prize-winner in the annual “Who are You?” awards, loyally but also, sad to relate, correctly predicted 3-1 to his team and wins the Campo Retro shirt.

Proud to be a Sunderland supporter, proud to present Sixer’s Wembley report

As Rob Hutchinson saw Wembley Way
As Rob Hutchinson saw Wembley Way

Pete Sixsmith didn’t quite qualify for Mr Robert Halfon MP’s tribute to ‘scumbag football hooligans’, missing out on the Covent Garden riot (implies Mr H) or good-natured gathering (said the cops) and travelling down on the Durham SAFCSA branch charabanc. This is his wonderful account of a great occasion we wouldn’t let defeat spoil …

Poyetry in Motion. SAFC 1 Manchester City 3: players and fans oustanding

Our lot: outclassed City
Our lot: outclassed City

Colin Randall writes: I snapped away last night at the London and SE SAFCSA branch eve-of-final social and today in the approach to the game. I am full of admiration for them, full of contempt for the Tory MP, Robert Halfon, who oafishly tweeted: “Went to London for dinner. Wish I hadn’t. Scumbag football hooligans turn Covent Garden into a disgusting cesspit.” By all accounts of police reaction I heard, our supporters were numerous but good-natured. And as Gus Poyet says in post-match e-mail taking justified pride in the way his players performed, the fans inside Wembley were outstanding. Three-one was a cruel result; City’s second-half recovery was explosive but short and getting to extra time would not have flattered Sunderland ..

WEMBERLEEEE: Sixer’s Sunderland team to beat Manchester City

Pete Sixsmith: getting the first round in on Sunday?
Pete Sixsmith: getting the first round in on Sunday?

John McCormick writes:

Dennis Tueart was on local TV today, with a clip of his 1976 League Cup Final goal against Newcastle (and I have to say he looked a lot older and he’s lost weight), but that’s all I’ve seen about the final. Maybe both Manchester teams not doing well in Europe has muted the North-West TV bosses. I’veĀ been busy, of course, making arrangements for the weekend. Venues and times, phone numbers to exchange and confirm, and also organising a ticket for the Palace match.
