Sixer’s Sevens: SAFC 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers 0. Someone’s missing O’Neill’s message

Jake, Sixer and brick walls

What was it Martin O’Neill told the players after we went out of the FA Cup? End the season in style, finish as high as you can … surely this was not what he had in mind.

Jake sees the season fizzling out

A draw
that seemed creditable against Spurs is now put in context by the second-half crushing at Goodison and failure to beat doomed Wolves today. Somehow being dragged around Ikea didn’t seem such a bad fate after all.

Here Pete Sixsmith captures the glory and shame, hope and despair, excitement and ennui of the Sunderland matchday experience. When, rarely, Pete is absent or delayed, a supersub does it for him and the seven-word verdict is preceded by an asterisk. Pete’s full analysis of the game will usually appear within a day or two.

The full Sixer’s Sevens archive – see link below – sums up what all Sunderland supporters feel, from darkest gloom to sublime elation, in the words of one who is usually there …

  1. The best action of the day came from the debate, then realisation that those three birds sitting really still on the top of the South stand weren’t actually birds.
Apparently they’re some sort of camera devices that Opta employ at all Premier league clubs.

If I’m forced to speak of a game related matter, it would be to reinforce my (often ridiculed) opinion that Steven Fletcher would be a very decent signing for us.

  2. It was bloody freezing day I recall that, but the sky was very blue and the sun shone for most of the game, but Ive never been so cold.Saw a few seagulls perform some clever pirouettes but I would have to say the lady in front of me who went to get some chips drowned in Ketchup sometime in the second half, probably made the best move of the day.

  4. All those who were complaining about how boring the Spurs game was should have been there today. Then they’ll know what boring is!
