West Ham vs SAFC Guess the Score: with heavy heart …

You can just imagine the thought process for West Ham supporters.

Fourth bottom. Team’s under pressure, Big Sam’s under pressure and a lifeline may be needed. Just when all seems too gloomy for words, along comes the home game against Sunderland.

As Gordon Thrower, the interviewee in this week’s funny, cheeky “Who are You?” feature indicated, no Hammer seriously expect a repeat of the scoreline from October 19 1968 when SAFC were robbed rotten, Geoff Hurst’s cynically punched opening goal creating such a sense of injustice that – as Pete Sixsmith has previously noted on these pages – Monty and the Lads took no further active part of the proceedings, preferring to lose 8-0.

Jake: 'be good - or be lucky'
Jake: ‘be good – or be lucky’

All the same Gordon – and presumably any other Hammer looking at our form – was confident of a win “ref permitting”, which Messrts Atkinson, Marriner, Friend and Mason will readily confirm presents no problem to anyone playing SAFC.

Just for fun, then, and whoever support, have a go at guessing the correct scoreline. Quite a lot rides on the real-life outcome.

And let me just add that it is time the players matched the efforts of supporters and put on a performance, this time against lower opposition, that makes those fans proud or sends them home celebrating or both, though just celebrating would do.

Ha’ way the Lads.

  1. West Ham 0 – 2 SAFC which is just pure wishful thinking, denying any logic, common sense or intuition.

Its definitely keep the faith time as that is all we have left.
