There have been great days and nights involving Sunderland and Manchester United in the cup and the memories of the older ones around these parts go all the way back to 1964 when the records say the Roker Park attendance for the first replay was 46,000 but 70,000 were actually inside the ground, the gates having been opened as crowds outside surged forward. Pete Sixsmith and Monsieur Salut were swept in by just such a surge at a turnstile close to the Clock Stand/Fulwell corner…
And Guess the Score once again takes on a do-gooding feel.
Eric Bowers’s kind offer, putting his prize Salut! Sunderland mug up for auction in aid of charity, has still not produced a winner.
Guess the correct score in the first leg of SAFC v MUFC. If you win, by being the first to get it right, and have opted to pledge a minimum of £10 to a charity of your choice, the mug is yours. A Man Utd supporter who won would receive a mug with a suitably modified design.
If you win having chosen not to take part in the charity aspect, you get rewards in heaven, though neither your destination nor the rewards can be guaranteed.
So far, the charities nominated by those staking money have included the RAF Benevolent Fund, Help the Heroes, the British Heart Foundation and Water Aid. Choose any of those or another if you wish to make a pledge.
And Ha’way the Lads.

Great reader participation! I’ll cast a non-eligible (for mug) vote for 2-1
Well done M Salut. However, as you say, you are not eligible. I think we should now go to a straight auction. You want it, you bid. “Muggie” needs a loving home and quickly.
OK. I will incorporate that in the Guess the Score for Fulham. Only worry is entries have been so scarce
1-1
I’ve given up trying to predict anything concerning SAFC but my donation to Water Aid has gone anyway. Any sort of win would be nice.
I fear our prize mug may be developing a complex. Up for grabs twice now yet still languishing in M Salut’s warehouse. Come on fellow Mackems. Get guessing (preferably right), get bidding and get donating. I will be happy if we are still in the tie when the second leg comes around as this is the Mancs only chance of a pot this season. So it’s 0-0 for me and £10 to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
