Podcast! Anything but hope…

Staying up?
Staying up?

You just don’t know whether to laugh or cry when it comes to Sunderland. At the final whistle on Saturday a full dose of the dreaded hope returned. If we had our game in hand today and won it, then we’d be out of the bottom three. I can’t even fathom how this is possible. Ten days ago we were dead and buried. Now survival is back on. Big time.

The anxiety over these types of home games is lingering. We’ve failed to score at home against most of the sides around us. But, at this stage of the season we’d like to think Cardiff will come and be far more open as they search desperately for a win themselves. That surely will present us with far more goal scoring opportunities than usual. Hopefully.

The resurgent Connor Wickham gets heavy praise this week. I’ve been a huge critic of the lad, but for the last three games he’s been absolutely fantastic. He’s been a good focal point in Poyet’s system. Something we’ve been missing all season. It’s frustrating it’s taken him this long to get going, but at the same time if he keeps us up then nobody will be bothered. Including myself.

On the phone we were joined by David Jones. You’ll know him from Sky Sports News and Saturday Night Football, as well as the excellent Footballer’s Football Show. He was covering the game on Saturday and he gives us his thoughts. We also had Chris Young of the Sunderland Echo in the studio once more, insightful as ever.

We spoke with Jody Craddock about his up coming testimonial too, which was nice. Then of course we preview the massive Cardiff game with Ben from View from the Ninian.

It’s a bumper podcast this week. Let’s hope it’s a bumper crowd on Sunday too. If you’re thinking about going and you’re not so sure, then think no further and go buy a ticket. Show your colours, wave your scarf and raise the roof.
