SAFC v Swansea City Guess the Score: can we bounce back?

Possibly out of sequence as we await Pete Sixsmith’s magisterial analysis of SAFC vs Stoke. But the weekend is approaching, I’ve a lot on – paid-for work – so let’s get cracking with Guess the Score …

Last season, they poured rain on our parade, coming along after that magnificent survival-securing run of ours to collect three points with the minimum of fuss on the final day.

This season they have started, shall we say, better than us in the Premier and also walloped Everton in the league cup as we were bowing to mighty Stoke.

Not quite this time last year, but close to it, Swansea away was my first game of the season having arrived home from France for the annual hibernation just a day or two earlier. It was Poyet’s debut as head coach. At half time, I spotted two fellow members of the SAFCSA London branch in the away end and went over for a chat. “That wasn’t too bad,” said one of them, Richie Cockton. He was right.

And soon after half time, Phil Bardsley had a priceless chance to score which he fluffed. he did score later but one of the four goals at the other end.

What will happen on Saturday? The form book says we’ll struggle. I expect Ki to be top form. I also expect our Swans “Who are You?” interviewee, Max Hicks, to predict an away win when his responses -promised tonight – drop in my e-mail box.

Or will Poyet somehow find the winning formula that has deserted him so far this season?

You tell me. Post the correct score, before kickoff, and if you are the first to do so, you’ll win a mug from the competition sponsors Personalised Football Gifts. It carries a dressing room image and you can add your name to the No 12 shirt. Same goes for a Swansea-supporting winner.

Bill Cowell OBE won the rollover, disloyally but accurately informing us we’d lose 2-1 at home to Stoke. That means two mugs to add to the one he won for also knowing we’d get a “fluky” 2-2 draw at home to Spurs.

If you missed it then, read Bill’s fascinating memories of supporting Sunderland since the late 1940s:

And then get guessing for the Swansea match. Ha’way the Lads.

It is time to vote in the annual Football Blogging Awards. There are some big guns in the field and Salut! Sunderland is under no illusions about its chances of picking up an award. We are not sure this is how it works in the Oscars but invite you, all the same, to consider voting for us. You can go directly to the voting form at http://www.footballbloggingawards.co.uk/about/how-to-vote-football-blogging-awards/, or read on first to learn a little about one site courting your support. Salut! Sunderland qualifies for votes in four (not three as I thought) of the 11 sections: Established, Forum, Club and Young Blogger …

  1. We might have a better chance if Swansea Town send their side Rob. Unfortunately it’s their more prosperous neighbours, City we have to face.

  2. I think we are, as a team struggling at the moment. I do not see it in there, so I suggest Sunderland 2 – 3 Swansea Town. I feel they have a better side than we do.

Connor Wickham and that contract. He is doing nothing so far this season to worthy a contract.

Only one consolation at the moment is we are not as bad as Newcastle, and that is very small consolation.

C’mon Gus. All You guys here seek out my boyhood favourite song on YouTube, Man – C’mon. A welsh band. Lord knows we need our players to GET UP!

  3. The back 4 have now got that clean sheet feeling and now the “Donkey” has found the net again it’ll be a roller coaster 2-0 home win

  4. Swansea will score. Probably twice. So we will need to score 3. “Simples” as that irritating Russian rat says 10 times a night on ITV. Incidentally, an accent that surrounds me here in the Russian republic of Ayia Napa. So 3-2 it is.
