Sunderland v Stoke City Guess the Score rollover: win while we’re singing

Bravo to Sam and the Lads
for a very committed display at Palace, with more decent football than the “ugly but effective” comments would have you believe. Three precious points won, the fans at Selhurst Park for once rewarded for singing their hearts out … but can we keep it going?

This, after all, is Sunderland – as the saying goes.

Mark Hughes has assembled a very useful team. As Pete Sixsmith wrote here this week, “a resilient side who play better football than Palace but receive 10 per cent of the media adulation that falls on Pardew and his players”.

The Stoke City (h) edition of Salut! Sunderland’s famous “Who are You?” series will appear tomorrow:
Extract:

Salut: Surprised at our woeful form or did you reckon our luck had probably run out?

Richard Hulme, Stoke fan:
To be honest I’m surprised you are doing as well as you are! It must be galling for you to see the club in such a position, again. Listening to 606 on a Saturday certainly gives the impression that you Sunderland fans are not a happy bunch. The general feeling around here is that this is going to be your season, your season to be relegated … your saving grace could just be the arrival of Big Sam.

We may find Richard’s view annoying but it is hardly one you don’t also hear among our own supporters.

Saturday won’t be easy. No Sunderland game is these days. But then, we’ve beaten other good or Ok Stoke sides in the past so can do it again.

But over to you. Guess the Score. Still a rollover – two mugs unless I can persuade our esteemed sponsors from Personalised Football Gifts to make it a famed print of the same dressing image, your name as No 12 – and let’s have a bumper entry.

I was surprised no one predicted 0-1 against Southampton and even more so, given our readers’ blind optimism (or unwavering loyalty), 1-0 at Palace. We’ll see between now and 3pm on Saturday whether you detect revival or yet another false dawn.

Monsieur Salut’s decision, as ever, will be final. You win if you are the first – whoever you support – to post the correct score before kickoff but you must have a UK delivery address.

  1. Xmas comes early with 3 points due to a 5 goal haul by fletch and another clean one by pants 5-0 (and yes i was drinking til the early hours)

  2. SAFC 3 – 0 Stoke, assured defensive performance with a front cutting edge……..or another bloody false dawn at Palace.

    Which Sunderland to turn up?

  3. Encouraging performance at Palace BUT it must be built upon. However, Stoke are tough so a draw with a decent performance may have to suffice. 1-1.
