From ecstasy at Old Trafford to torpor at the Stadium of Light as Sunderland made hard work of non-league visitors. Pete Sixsmith spoke at half time of it all being too one-paced. Despite 10 corners and abundant possession and pressure, the game drew to a close with 3,000 away fans urging Harriers to grab a last-ditch equaliser. But Sunderland are through. A second Wembley trip looms? ..:

  1. The alternative explanations that I have heard about Altidore

    a) he has no confidence
    b) he doesn’t get any service
    c) our system of play doesn’t suit him

He has no confidence because he’s played like a drain since we signed him. He is never on the end of anything when the ball comes into the box, ever. What sort of system would suit a forward who doesn’t run into space, and never gets on the end of a cross and fails to try and make anything happen himself.

Enough excuses. Not within a country mile of being good enough. I have real doubts about whether he would have any impact one or two divisions lower. Yesterday, even Celustka and Vergini got shots in, but not him.

    • He needs to go whether its a sale or loan. Wickham is streets ahead of him and even Danny Graham is a few patio’s ahead. Sell him back to a Dutch team if possible while he’s stock is still highish there.

    • @ Jeremy

The enduring mystery is how did Di Fanti see a Premier League player in Josy? – but, on the other hand, how did Mr Short ever see a Director of Football in Di Fanti?

  2. We need to play differently at home – bang more crosses in for a start, as we’re too predictable. Another big home game looms, a similar win to this would do nicely but I’m not confident.

You wonder whether Cattermole starting means he won’t v Stoke, but will at the Wongadome? The right decision by Gus I feel if that’s what he does, playing a midfield of Colback, Ki and maybe Gardner further forward in midweek.

Altidore has lost all confidence now, if we fail to bring a striker in we may have to bring Whickham back. Although am I alone in wishing we could see Borini right up top?

  3. Couldn’t make the game and seeing coach loads of Harriers fans at Wetherby services while I was heading the other way only heightened my sense of missing out. As it turned out I didn’t miss much , nevertheless we won and we’re through . Decent crowd in my eyes as well,25 000+, there won’t be many bigger in this round of the competition . As someone who hasn’t seen any of the game all I can say is that our side had never played together before, many of them would have being first team rusty and we had a couple of debutants present aswell. So you were never going to be served up a flowing , sweeping , attacking master class from us . Add to that Harriers stout defending and by all accounts that made a poor game. But we’re through and Harriers leave with self respect intact, job done basically .

  4. I take it you mean Altidore, to be fair to him he got little in the way of quality service today, assist for the goal………but I share your concern.

Problem is he appears to be pretty much a one dimensional player…….hoof it up to him and see if he can outmuscle the defence, can give good layoffs but is not great in possession otherwise.

Need to look beyond Josey for the future am afraid.

  5. Any striker worth his salt would have scored at least two today yet we lumbered on and on why? Has he got it or was he a mistake? Hard to say at this stage but let us get behind him and hope it is just a blip
