It was an incredible game of football and it was a magnificent start for the fans, although I’m not sure it was the same for us in the dug-out.
It was a key moment when Adam Johnson equalised straight away after the Spurs goal, because if it was 1-0 for a long time it would have been a totally different game.
I think it was exciting to watch and I thought Spurs were very good today. They have quality around the park – power, speed and technical ability.
They made it very difficult for us but we are a proper team and we try hard – we always go on and try to get something from the game.
The most important part today was that we fought back and got a point which is very good for us.
You need to put yourself in there and apply pressure to get something from the game, we conceded one unfortunate goal but we got back into the game in a similar way.
I am really pleased with the team and really pleased to see us take something from the game; we fought back and found solutions today.
There are situations during the game when you can help the team but it is up to the players and today it is important to realise how the players feel, how they made decisions and how they took that control.
We tried our best and that is who we are, I do not think every game is going to be like this one but I am sure it will bring plenty of positives and good things for the future.
The idea now is to rest because I can tell you there are a few very heavy legs in there and we need to prepare 100% for the next game.

Agree with all of above. Last year at home to Man U and Spurs….not to mention away to West Brom….we got nowt from the corresponding fixtures
This time around unbeaten.
Spurs were always going to respond to their mauling from Liverpool. Thus us our first point in several frames against them. Shame Rose chucked himself on the floor.
Two home games against two top seven sides so not the easiest start to home fixtures

What was good to see was Danny Rose, staying on the pitch after everyone else had disappeared down the tunnel, acknowledging the Sunderland fans applause and handing his shirt to a Sunderland supporter.
Wonder if we’ll see the same when Colback returns!
Nice touch from yet another player who has played for Safc and gained international recognition. There was a time when his career was stagnating……still dived though

There must be a greater committment, because I agree this was a game we would have lost normally, they controlled the game but we kept going and in the end salvaged a point and with a bit more luck could have taken 3. Cattermole is a new man, Giacherrini looks so committed and intent on being a success he should start on a regular basis, Johnson was flat out yesterday something of a rarity in the past, the back 4 work together and conceeded 2 really unlucky goals, early days but a new team and a more positive outlook
Strange game where we conceded most of the possession. We’d have lost that game 3-1 or 4-1 a year ago, and quite frankly we could easily have done so today.
Remarkably, we could have won it at the end,but came away with another point.
It would be nice to see “quality” in the manager’s assessment but I’m dreaming now. It’s Saturday night and the bourbon was good watching the second half particularly,
There’s more fight than we saw 12 months ago and that’s about it. Much better work rate, and morale than last year by a country mile.
Hoddle and Glizean were anonymous for them.
Would we have got a point from that situation a year ago?
And as Gus says, Spurs were good in many ways – strong, technical, organised, also confident.
We got nothing against them last season
Does this result therefore signal an improvement? in capability, morale, team ethic, whatever you want..
