John McCormick writes: On Thursday my ticket for the Arsenal game arrived, then my rail tickets and my railcard followed in short order. So I went out last night in a good mood.
And it lasted until about ten past three this afternoon.
Here, in seven words, no more, no less, Pete Sixsmith tells you why (he actually offered about eight versions of the verdict but none makes for pleasant reading – Ed) …

Get over it!
A good team played well and got all the breaks and a mediocre team played badly…..and as a result we got thumped. It happens .
It’s now about how the players and the manager react. We will soon see how good a manager Gus is ,and how much pride the players have.
Personally I have more faith in the manager than some of the players he has inherited.
I keep thinking today was a nightmare! ( a bad dream wasn’t it?) It was dark and grey outside and I waa watching a football match ( thankfully I was not at the stadium with our fans ) . Quite simply it was the most terrible game ever . The own goals , goal keeping errors, missed passes and total capitulation in the 2nd half was indescribable. Can we come back from this ? I am not sure… I hope so .
The fans were incredible , this makes me proud to be a sunderland supporter and from that city!
8-0 shouldn’t occur in a match between the champions league winners and a conference North team . The fact that it happened between two teams in the same division just beggers belief . We’re supposed to be improving , looking solid , hard to beat , yet we surrendered pathetically . The most embarrising defeat since the 5-1 and the only positive I can think of is that it wasn’t inflicted by the mags . This is where Poyet earns he’s coin , he’s got to fashion a response against Arsenal , they need to run themselves into the ground next Saturday or I forsee yet another season of toil and growing discontent in the ground , you don’t get miracles twice .
Third 8-0 in my supporting lifetime. Fortunately I was only in attendance at the Watford one. Missed West Ham and today. I know Sixer was at the first one (Sheff Wed in 1911/12?).
Can anyone lay claim to the dubious honour of being at the last 3?
Shameful and gutless. One of the worst displays that I’ve ever seen. Not just from a Sunderland side, but any side in the top flight ever. I’ve seen 8 year olds defend in more organised fashion than that.
Just when Mannone started to provide me with some confidence after the Stoke display, he produces a showing like that. Horrific, horrific, horrific.
Poyet says this is his team. Two of them are Brighton’s. Bridcutt and Buckley were abject.
Gomez has found the portable hole used so (in)effectively by Gordon Armstrong all those years ago, dusted it off and sneaked it on the bus.
This was crap. Pure and simple. No other word and no excuses.
If young Kier gives anyone a mark of more than 2, he should be removed from Salut duties.
Utter rubbish. Doesn’t help when they pass the ball from defence straight to their players.
Can’t take anything positive out of the game and worried that today is the day we got found out as having bought a load of average Championship players
