This is the place where Pete Sixsmith normally sums up his views of the game in seven words, just as the full time whistle blows. Now and again a supersub has to step in and that is the case today as he rejected the delights of North London in order to put smiles on the faces of some of the younger members of the North East community. Today M Salut himself takes on the role of match summariser with his own seven word verdict.

Agree Bill and Colin. A long way to go but we do look like a team and on another day wouldn’t have returned empty handed. Arsenal second string eh? Cech,Ozil,Ramsey,Giroud et al Afair few millions there alone.
The scoreline flatters Arsenal a bit. We could – and probably should – have come away with a point but we were by no means disgraced. I take heart from this performance.
