At half time, we were two down and poor old Pete Sixsmith already had a seven-word verdict: ‘Abysmal from the first minute. Utterly hopeless’. If that seems like sitting on the fence, there was little more than some blustering huff and puff to come. Pete had known at the interval, most of us had known, it would not get too much better. Never mind that Martin Atkinson’s interpretation of the handball rule left the impression defenders could stop, pick up the ball and still get away with it. Rob Green made his saves, but keepers do. We simply deserved no more than this wretched defeat. I shall not be staying up for Gus Poyet’s explanation for the exposed left flank that led to both QPR goals. It’s always the same with Sunderland they get a couple of good results and they think they just have to turn up, no killer instinct. The manager is responsible for the mind set of the team as it usually reflects his own, which is obviously lacking. It seems that we are destined to always be mediocre as no matter which manger we get we always seem to suffer the same old pattern of results and performances, unlike some other clubs who miraculously can buy players that are top quality and cost far less than ours, and get them playing as TEAM. (Southampton and Swansea spring to mind). The Sunderland fans deserve better and have suffered enough of this mediocrity, but where the answer to improvement lies I really don’t know, but we need passion and a will to succeed both from management and on the pitch, they all have to want it to happen, which presently they don’t, it’s a hope for the best culture at Sunderland.

Bridcutt, Gomez just not good enough and you can’t expect to win games with both or either of them on the pitch. The number of times Bridcutt gave possession away in the second half beggared belief.
Poyet has no plan ‘B’ and all of this was too predictable and happens far too often. Will replacing him save our season and if we do who do we get. All of this is far too familiar, season after season same old!!!

We lost because we wandered around aimlessly and not really trying until it was too late and, more importantly, because our coach tweaked the formation to the effect of leaving us completely exposed on the left where the threat was all game. That was obvious way before they scored but he left it to half time to sort it out.
I am completely and utterly sick of him NEVER taking the blame for mistakes. I would respect him more, as well as believing that he actually has a clue, if he occasionally admitted that he had made an error. He made a horrendous mistake today and should admit it.
I think there should be a proper debate on the position of Poyet. This was a game where a win would virtually make us safe and a defeat put us back in serious trouble. Everybody I spoke to was worried we would come out complacent and guess what happened. And what on earth was the idea of playing 4-4-2 with Gomez, the slowest, laziest professional footballer in the world wide on the left.
He has no idea of players (Bridcutt must have been his choice and he is a poor championship player at best and Buckleyanyone), Gomez gave the worst performance today that I can remember and should have been subbed within 10 minutes. He kept him on to cost us a second goal and the match.
Ratings should be interesting. Defoe had 2 great chances and missed both, the first appeared to be through lack of courage. Wickham should have scored first half and was really weak. Larsson tried hard but was disastrously bad with the ball. Bridcutt woeful, Gomez as bad as it is possible to be. Both are consistently bad but both keep getting picked.
Only bright spot for me was Johnson, who must be tearing his hair out having to do tricks in his own half because Bridcutt waits until he is well-covered and then gives him the ball.
On top of not waking them up before the start, Poyet plays a dreadful defensive brand of football and has made some horrendous selection/set-up mistakes. Anyone with half a brain would know that you don’t play a defensive midfielder in front of a back 3 (the hideous Fulham game) and I still cannot believe the way he set us up today.
I am genuinely interested if anyone else thinks he should go. This is not a kneejerk reaction as I wasn’t at all convinced last season that he was much more than lucky, once he had done the good work early on of rebuilding confidence.
I have mostly been supportive of Poyet, but your points are very relevant. Although, I would add, I also mostly have said without Cattermole, we lack leadership and influence. He is, in my humble opinion, our best player. Coupled with Adam Johnson, as North Eastern guys, those two are our survival.
Completely agree that Cattermole has been a huge loss. Even without him we should be able to beat a very poor QPR. You can look at Rob Green being good, ref having no idea of handball and also not spotting Defoe being flattened twice in the box and many other things, but the worse team lost today, which is embarrassing and very worrying.
I wish I could say I was surprised by the result but it’s happened too often over the years. And Smoggie back to gloat after a year of silence too! All we need now is Geordiedoonsouth!

At least we keep on winning against the Magpies. Record wins, time and time again. And I see our win ratio increasing against that load of junk.

When I saw the score. Stuck in Northamptonshire, expecting an easy 3 points. The same old story happens yet again (7 words). I just had to come here.
Very annoyed at what transpired this evening. Still the same junk served up week in week out. This should have been 3 points gained for sure.
I am not convinced we will stay up after this result. And how will we pay Defoe if we go down?

What rankles me is that we still have a bunch of mid table type players who can’t motivate themselves to beat teams they are capable of beating, and another manager and backroom staff who can’t coach them and manage them to do so.
Keane , for all his faults, brought positiveness and belief, albeit at a cost and short term.
Something fundamentally wrong at the club, and we will continue to be a club which flirts with relegation ( till we eventually go down) unless there is radical change
We ALWAYS do it! When we played them away, they hadn’t scored this season, hadn’t earned a point. What happens? They score, they win. If a commentator says ” Here comes substitute Jimmy Hopeless, he hasn’t scored since Madonna was a virgin”, you can be certain…
