It has become a bit of a stuck old gramophone record, Salut! Sunderland‘s pride in a tremendous season of Who are You? interviews with opposing supporters.
Judging is at an advanced stage for our HAWAYs – annual awards for Highly Articulate Who are You?s – and with only a couple of sets of votes still awaited, front-runners are emerging.
League One has been a goldmine for the series (not forgetting our cup-game interviewees from other divisions)
As Monsieur Salut put it when writing to the judges: “I could have put them all in a hat and drawn three at random, so good have so many of the interviews been.”
More after a passing mention for the chairman Stewart Donald’s invitation to fans heading for Fratton Park tonight:
Any @SunderlandAFC fans passing @EastleighFC to go to the game – please stop in and have a drink to relax the nerves. Club are on standby as a couple of supporters coaches are stopping by. Chairmans turn to get you all a beer ??????

In no special order, there has been support already for several shortlisted candidates:
* Bristol Rovers’ Doug Shields
* Peterborough United’s James Bloodworth
* Rochdale’s John Beckettt
* Southend United’s Ian Charnock
* Wycombe Wanderers’ Jon Dickinson
* Shrewsbury Town’s Glyn Price
I could easily add at least one Barnsley interview, along with contributors among the fans of Bradford City, Fleetwood Town and Doncaster Rovers.
It remains to be seen what will become of Who are You?
It is an exhausting and often frustrating process and the rewards in terms of readership figures, while greatly varying, can be disappointing. Watch this space for an update on that plus, of course, news of the final awards.
For now, let us savour another great edition of the series, offer warmest thanks to all who gave time and effort to participate, the judges (Malcolm Dawson, John McCormick, Pete Sixsmith and “Wrinkly” Pete Lynn, all of this parish, and Paul “Sobs” Dobson if he’s able to oblige). Readers were invited to take part: you may still do so by adding on Comments below your favourite three in order of preference).
And special thanks to our generous prize sponsors:
