I may have mentioned already that Salut! Sunderland has a habit of going on tour. It is a tour that takes us to the new site ByFarTheGreatestTeam, where some of our writers have already been showcased, while Stephen Goldsmith pops up in all sorts of places (most recently the Anfield Wrap) and Monsieur Salut sheds his alter ego to write under his real name for ESPN.
It was at ESPN that I decided to write a glowing account of David Meyler’s exceptional comeback from his second serious injury.
This is a sample …
Sunderland’s greatest Irishman of recent years, Niall Quinn, wouldn’t (scoff at an international debut being against lowly Oman). His first appearance in the green shirt of his native land was as a late sub in 1986 against Iceland, currently ranked 118th, but he went on to win 92 caps, scoring 21 goals. On all the evidence, David Meyler is an exemplary young player. Still only 23, he has the ability and, demonstrably, the commitment to reach a long way towards Quinn’s appearances tally even if he is unlikely to grab anything like as many goals.
Go to the ESPN site to see this and other pieces they have coaxed from me on a range of subjects, all with some Sunderland-related content.
