Win on Sunday and, as we all know, at least one more Wembley date beckons.
Some pragmatic supporters feel that having had our day of pride, competing on equal terms with one of the best teams in the world so that they were time-wasting shamelessly before the undeserved third goal, we should settle for an FA Cup exit now and focus on survival.
Other people would agree except that it would mean a third defeat this season to Steve Bruce. And plenty have simply acquired the taste for Wembley.
Here’s a chance to guess the score. I am not offering a prize this time so enter just for fun, whether you support Sunderland or Hull or neither.
Thanks once again to Raich Carter junior for a smashing “Who are You?” interview, well received by both sets of supporters here and at the Hull pages of Not606.com. Thanks, too, to Gary Clark, twice an interviewee in the series, for the introduction to Raich.
This is how I wrote about it at ESPN in a piece I headlined “Ghost of shared hero haunts Sunderland and Hull’s Wembley bid”: http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/sunderland/id/2924?cc=5739
Here’s an extract from our “Who are You?” questionnaire. No one should need reminding that Raich senior was Sunderland-born and captained the 1936 First Division and 1937 FA Cup winning SAFC sides before playing for and also managing Hull …
Salut! Sunderland: What are your own memories of your dad, as a player and father and man, and his own presumably divided allegiances?
My father was very self confident about all things to do with football, he used to hold the Hull City boardroom captivated with his insights and anecdotes after matches, holding fort with the sports writers who lapped up what he said. His stock phrase in those days, when asked about the match was always ‘bloody rubbish. No one on that pitch could kick my backside!’
Ha’way the Lads, SAFC lads that is. Monsieur Salut thinks the battle against relegation can be fought alongside morale-boosting further cup progress.

1-1.
Only cos 2-1 is taken.
Hull 9 Sunderland 11 – players on the pitch after 90 minutes that is. Hull 0 SAFC 3 in goals
3-2 to us, was going to say 2-2 but Gus wouldn’t want that , ha !
2-0
I think we’ll see a very different team turn out, with a start for Scorchio among others. I worry that a draw is likely.
But I can’t put SAFC down for anything other than a win whatever the game or opposition. I’s pick 2-1 but it’s gone so it’s a 1-0 win for us
I’m hopeful of a win but I think 2-2 and another tiring, fixture eating, replay.
And I’ll book a 3-1 to us on that replay.
I think that our impressive showing against City, and our need to demonstrate that Steve Bruce has not got the Indian sign on us, will see us through. 3-1 to SAFC
Not disloyally, or even pragmatically, I have a feeling we will be flat after Sunday. 1-0 to them but we then beat Palace which, if you cannot have both, is more important
Hull 0 – 2 SAFC, we finally pay Brucie back!
The definition of FAILURE – Losing to Hull City three times in one season FFS
Got to be another trip to Wembley, 2-1 to the lads
