Player Ratings: Keir’s hardy hero digs in at Spurs

Keir Bradwell doesn’t like games that end 5-1. I imagine that it’s because he thinks we always end up on the wrong end of the 5 but he’s young and he’ll learn.

While we’re focusing on the number five, did anyone get that (out of 10) in his ratings? Yes, Adam Johnson, but someone else did even better. Read on to find out who that hero is:

Tottenham 5 – 1 Sunderland – Player Ratings

 Vito Mannone – 2

Very poor night for Mannone, who was directly at fault for one goal and could’ve done better for the others. Nothing like his best.

 Santiago Vergini – 4

The best of the defence, although, once again, that doesn’t mean much. Wasn’t at fault for any of the goals, still looked absolutely mortified when they attacked, seemed scared to tackle. Perhaps he learnt his lesson from Liverpool.

 Carlos Cuellar – 4

See Vergini, only slower. None of our centre-backs are any good, at all. I’d play Roberge next week.

 Wes Brown – 1

At fault for three of the five goals. He’s an absolute liability, he gets away with murder week in, week out, on the basis of a few good performances last year.

 Phil Bardsley – 3

Did absolutely nothing. At all.

 Marcos Alonso – 4

Terrible start, absolutely terrible start, but grew into the game and made some genuinely brilliant tackles.

Liam Bridcutt – 3

I don’t really understand what he is meant to do. He wasn’t bad, as such, just completely ineffectual. I think this is because he’s got three centre-backs and two centre-midfielders around him, thus the need for him is minimal.

 Lee Cattermole – 10

Never in any doubt.

Ki Sung-Yueng – 3

Shoot man, shoot. If you’re through on goal, while the game is level, with plenty of time on your hands, don’t pass.

 Adam Johnson – 5

Put actual effort in, better than can be said about anyone else.

Fabio Borini – 2

Really weak from Borini. Incredibly sloppy. Needed to be subbed for Wickham, wasn’t.

 Craig Gardner – 4

I don’t think he did anything.

 Nacho Scocco – 4

Had a reasonably good shot. Other than that, did nothing either.

Man of the Match – Lee Cattermole

Hero. After his chances at Liverpool and vs West Ham, I never thought Cattermole would score. It just wasn’t happening. But giving us the lead at Tottenham filled our hearts with a tiny speck of hope for survival. The rest of the game wasn’t quite as magical but Cattermole proved me wrong and the atmosphere in our corner of White Hart Lane was immense in the aftermath because of it.

  1. Carttermole did well , the same as every other teams midfielders do routinely most weeks. He stood out because the rest were beneath rank . Cattermole was Cattermole , because the others gave up he stood out . He will be a huge assets in the championship next season , as would Bardsley and Mannone if they stay, I hope the rest don’t .

  2. The innocence of youth shines through. But be careful, Keir, with words like ‘hero’ and with 10s out of 10. Cattermole scored and he tried. Apart from being on a yellow – of course – he was unlucky to be subbed and Poyet’s decision was questionable to say the least. But being the best of a wretched bunch did not make him a hero, still less warrant full marks.

    • Yes but I felt so good for him! He’d never scored, it never seemed like he’d score, and then he did, finally, which must’ve been amazing
