We are as good as down. 4 wins since August. How could it possibly get worse than this.

I kind of think we need to stick with Poyet. Yes, many of us are disgusted by his tactics. We want a team out there playing. And we never seem to get it.
But, the guy will eventually get a team, I believe he will. Maybe it will involve a relegation, I hope not. Remember, he has no say on the players brought in. Bruce did. He can only deal the hand he has.
Sorry I disagree , Poyet does have a say in the players brought in , he’s admitted it in interviews . Rodwell is ‘ he’s ‘ signing, he’s said it . Bridcutt and Buckley are he’s signings and I assume he played a large part in persuading Defoe to come here . Rodwell may well come good, Defoe has a few good years left in him but he needs service . The only way Bridcutt and Buckley will come into their own is if we do go go down , otherwise try and sell them .
Problem is that if we do stick with Poyet we are looking at relegation. Having said that I can’t see anyone else wanting to come to Sunderland. Our home form and performances are disgraceful and the problems with this set of players is so institutionalized now I just can’t see where we are going to find any inspiration.
Poyet’s tactics and style of play leave a lot to be desired but as pointed out above you can only use what you have. Need a wholesale clearout (yet again) in the summer regardless of what division we are in.
Lacklustered, ineffective, over paid, under achievers is all we have.
I suspect that if you go on Hull City, Aston Villa, QPR and Everton websites (not to mention the England Cricket team) you’ll be hearing their fans say much the same. That plus the fact Leicester and Burnley are pretty weak will be what keeps us up.
But the real worrying thing is Malcolm, that this has been going on for seasons now under a raft of different managers.
You have to ask yourself is it worth staying up under these conditions?
Not so sure myself. Something at the club is fundamentally wrong if a team of seasoned pros and young wanabees can’t muster better performances than we have seen or do we have a team of seasoned hasbeens and neverwasers, in which case our recruitment policy sucks.
Do you know what – and I’ll get thumbs down galore for this – I’m not bothered if we do go down. I’m of the pre-Sky, pre-Premier League era and I don’t see Premier League survival as the be all and end all. I wish we were playing Reading this weekend with a hope of getting to the Cup Final and not fretting over whether we can get enough points to finish 17th.
Some of the most enjoyable times I’ve had following the team have been in the lower Divisions. A good bit of craic with my mates before home games, banter with opposition fans at places like Colchester, Crewe and Gillingham. My all time favourite match – the 5-2 win at Bury in 1999 when the atmosphere was electric.
I’m not bothered about whether we are one of the world’s richest clubs, whether the club will lose zillions of quids if we go down. I’m not Ellis Short. I’m just a fan who wants to enjoy his days out watching his team. Yes I want us to do as well as we can but if going down brings some joy back to match days then bring it on.
If sticking with Poyet means relegation [ and I agree with that assumption ] surely it is worth getting rid now while there is still a chance of staying up?
Poor as our squad is, his tactics only make them worse. If there is no one immediately available [ and that is debatable ] IMO we would be best advised to appoint a consultant for the remaining games, in the hope that a new face could get a tune out of them, and recruit a new manager in the summer.
We have some very experienced players, and football is not a complicated game. Idiot coaches make it so – the expression paralysis by analysis comes to mind.
Some one like Glenn Hoddle could possibly save our season.
Apart from a season under Keane maybe and a season under Bruce we’ve flirted with relegation since we’ve came up . Sooner rather than later we’ll go down , not because we can’t get anything at Old Trafford but because of results against the teams around us .Our home form is now atrocious , I fear it could be this season .
Watched second half only in abar in Barcelona but recognise the symptoms all too well. A relegation side, players looking clueless and going through the motions. Very, very, worried.
